The first and simplest way is to use the "Protected directories" feature in the control panel (recommended for normal users).
The second and more advanced way is to upload pre-generated .htaccess and .htpasswd files to the directory which you want to protect. If you are unable to generate these from your end, please contact Support and we can help you generate these files.

Can I do this

Ownership of all domain names can be changed easily, with the exception of .AU domain names.
.AU domain names cannot be freely marketed or sold.
Please contact Support if you wish to change ownership and we will guide you through the process.

Conditions under which a the licence (ownership) of a .AU domain can only be transferred
The Registrant sells part or all of their business operations or assets to the proposed new Registrant, and the Deed of Sale includes the transfer of the domain name licence.
The Registrant assigns part or all of their intellectual property rights to the proposed new Registrant, and the Deed of Assignment includes the transfer of the domain name licence.
Where the Registrant is a legal entity, the Registrant is liquidated or enters into administration and the liquidator or administrator authorises the transfer of the domain name licence to the proposed new Registrant.
The Registrant and the proposed new Registrant are legal entities belonging to the same group of related entities, eg. where a parent company transfers its domain name licence to a subsidiary.
The Registrant is holding the domain name licence in their capacity as an agent of the proposed new Registrant, and at the time of registration the Registrant had entered into an agreement to transfer the domain name licence to the proposed new Registrant at a future date, eg. where a web designer, ISP, lawyer, accountant or other service provider registers a domain name on behalf of a client.
Where the Registrant is an individual, the Registrant dies or becomes insane and the executor or power of attorney authorises the transfer of the domain name licence to the proposed new Registrant.
A competent arbitrator, tribunal, court or legislative body orders the Registrant to transfer their domain name licence to the proposed new Registrant, eg. in the case of a proceeding under the .au Dispute Resolution Policy (auDRP).
The Registrant has entered into an agreement to transfer their domain name licence to the proposed new Registrant in settlement of a dispute between the parties, and the Deed of Settlement includes the transfer of the domain name licence, eg. where a trade mark infringement dispute is settled out of court.
AND if the proposed new Registrant is eligible for the domain under auDA policy.

My mail client is reporting problems with authentication or rtcp hosts.
Sending of test mail in Outlook or Outlook Express fails.

Please check that your email client is setup correctly by using the following details:

POP3 server: mail. (eg mail.example.com.au)
SMTP server: mail. (eg mail.example.com.au)
Username: username@ (eg joe@example.com.au)

VERY IMPORTANT!
Also make sure that you have enabled authentication for the outgoing mail server (SMTP server). This option is labelled differently for various mail clients. A partial list is below:
Outlook and Outlook Express: "My server requires authentication"
Thunderbird: "Use name and password"

Please check the above before proceeding

Optus and Bigpond are known to block port 25 which is necessary for sending mail through Horizon Hosting.
Please refer to the following two URLs describing the issue.
For Optus users
http://www.optusnet.com.au/help/dsl/faqs/email#port25
For BigPond users
http://bigpond.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bigpond.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?pfaqid=5562

There are two solutions to this problem. The first and easiest is to use Optus/Bigpond's SMTP servers to relay your mail through. Simply set the SMTP server in your email client to the appropriate server:
mail.optusnet.com.au
mail.bigpond.com

The second solution is to remove the port blocking. Only Optus allow you to do this. Please refer to the Optus link above.

These work by bouncing back spam from known spam sources before it even touches our mail servers. For detailed information on how these work, please visit the Spamhaus website. We also provide you with Spamassassin which you may optionally use in addition to the DNSBLs. Intelligent heuristics ensure that spam is flagged and legitimate mail passes through unhindered.
